February 1st

Pool_Feb1.jpg

Can you believe it? It’s February 1 and I’m writing this post outside by the pool, wearing jeans a t-shirt and sandals,  listening to the birds singing.  It’s 74 degrees - and suppose to get to 80 today.    How can I complain about this?  Well I’m not.   I finally am loving Florida - at least this week.  The steam baths and gnat covered windows are long forgotten and I pray that this heavenly weather hangs around for many, many months.   It has a chance to last thru March and maybe into April.   We moved into the house last April and the weather was great even into May, but our neighbors warned us that’s unusual.

Before
Yesterday I worked on the garden bed under these trees.  The previous owner had a very natural style with a variety of  heat tolerant plants in shades of green.   You could hardly see the rocks she had as the plants swallowed them up.

201966-1307717-thumbnail.jpgAlthough the philodendron was light and bright, I was yearning for a variety of color and stuff that flowers.  I replaced it with 5 crotons,  5 orange marmalades (never had this plant before) and of course the critters and stuff.   No new critters, but I did buy a  few more colorful toad stools.   The marmalades are suppose to be sun and shade tolerant.  We’ll see.  But I’m encouraged by what the reference site says about this plant.  And another site says I should see continuous color.  Now that’s what I’m talking about.  I’d love to see lots of orange blossoms winding around the rocks.

I replaced the long mondo grass  with purple and white impatiens.  In a few weeks this is where I’ll see the biggest color splash.  Of course I’ll have to replace these in June as by then it’s just too hot.  With what I don’t know yet — maybe begonias  although they prefer full sun.  Oh well that’s months away so I’ll worry about that later.  All I have left to do now is redo the pots.  I may do that later today since it’s a perfect day to wander around the garden shops.   grin  Then I guess I’ll just sit and watch it all grow.   bigger grin

Lookin' good! But I think you are a day early. Today is Jan. 31st.

I'm jealous of your weather. Our forecast says freezing rain tonight and tomorrow and temps in the 20's. Ugh!!!!

OKAY - just rub it in! We have rain, wind and feezing temps for the next few days.
Seriously, glad you are finally liking Florida.
